WordPress websites for Canadian businesses
WordPress runs a large share of Canadian small business websites, which is both its strength and the reason so many of those sites are in poor shape. The platform is easy to start with and easy to neglect, and most rescue work we take on is a site that was fine at launch and has not been touched in three years.
We build WordPress sites for clients across Canada and take over existing ones regardless of who built them. Hosting is the decision that matters most and the one most often made badly: a Canadian-hosted site loads faster for Canadian visitors, and if you handle personal data there may be a compliance argument for keeping it in the country under PIPEDA.
We also strip out what is not needed. A typical inherited site arrives with twenty-odd plugins, several abandoned by their authors, each one a maintenance and security liability. Fewer, better-chosen plugins is almost always the right answer.
For WordPress website design in Canada, ask who owns the licences and the hosting account before you sign anything.
WordPress Website Design in Toronto — Frequently Asked Questions
Cost, security, migration, speed and who owns what — the questions Toronto business owners ask before commissioning a WordPress site.
How much does a WordPress website cost in Toronto?
A brochure site of five to ten pages built on a customised theme typically runs $2,500 to $6,000. A fully custom design and build, where nothing is a template, is usually $7,000 to $18,000. WooCommerce stores start around $6,000 and rise with the catalogue and the checkout rules. Add hosting, the domain and a maintenance plan on top — we quote all of it in writing before starting, so there is no line item you did not agree to.
Should I use WordPress or a custom-built website?
WordPress if you want to edit your own content, need a blog, or want a large plugin ecosystem to draw on — which covers most businesses. Custom if you have unusual workflows, heavy data, or an existing system the site must integrate with, where plugins would mean fighting the platform. We build both and will tell you which one fits, not which one is easier to sell. See custom web development for the other route.
Is WordPress secure?
WordPress itself is fine. What gets sites hacked is abandoned plugins, outdated PHP, weak passwords and nobody applying updates. That is a maintenance problem rather than a platform problem, and it is why we keep sites on a plan rather than handing over the keys and disappearing. We harden the login, keep plugin count low, run backups, and patch quickly. See security and clean-up if you have already been hit.
Can you move my existing site to WordPress?
Yes — from Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, Joomla, Drupal or an old custom build. The part that matters is the migration plan: keeping your URLs, redirecting the ones that have to change, and carrying over the pages that already rank. A migration done without that is the fastest way to lose traffic you spent years earning.
How long does a WordPress website take to build?
Three to five weeks for a straightforward business site, six to ten for something larger or an online store. The schedule usually depends on content — text, photos and product data. Projects with the content ready launch on time; projects waiting on copy do not.
Will my WordPress site be fast?
It will if it is built properly. Most slow WordPress sites are slow because of a heavy multi-purpose theme, twenty plugins and full-size images. We keep the plugin list short, serve images in modern formats at the size they are displayed, cache properly and test on a real mobile connection rather than on office wifi. Speed is a ranking factor and, more to the point, people leave slow sites.
Can I update the website myself?
Yes — that is most of the reason to choose WordPress. We set up the editor so the pages you will actually change are easy to change, and we walk you through it before handover. Nothing is locked behind us, and you are not charged for edits you can make yourself in a minute.
Do you do WooCommerce and online stores?
Yes. Products, variations, shipping rules, taxes and Canadian payment gateways, set up so that orders arrive where you need them. If you are weighing WooCommerce against Shopify, see ecommerce web design.
Do you handle hosting and the domain?
We can, or you can keep your own — whichever you prefer. Either way the domain and hosting stay in your name, with you as the account owner. Some agencies register the domain to themselves; ask about that before you sign with anyone.
Is the site built for SEO?
Every site we build ships with a clean heading structure, proper title tags and meta descriptions, fast page loads, an XML sitemap, schema markup and mobile-first layouts. That is the technical groundwork — it makes the site rankable. Competing for hard Toronto search terms afterwards is separate ongoing work, and we will not pretend otherwise. See SEO services.
Do you work with businesses across the GTA?
Yes. We are in North York and work with businesses across Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Brampton and the wider GTA, plus clients elsewhere in Canada. Building websites here since 2006 — see the portfolio.
